Personal information about you that is contained in your written responses to the Juror Questionnaire Form will not be released to persons other than the parties and their counsel. Your questionnaire forms will remain confidential, consistent with their intended use and consistent with the constitutional and statutory rights of the parties.

The Courts start new juries each week. You will be advised of the length of the trial by the Judge when you are sent to courtroom for jury selection. During the selection process, please let the Judge know if you have a scheduling conflict.

To find out if you need to report for Jury Duty, please logon to https://juryduty.jacksoncoilcourts.gov or call (618) 687-7341 the Friday before your service date after 4:00 p.m. for your reporting time. A message will advise you whether you are required to report, when, or not to report, have your juror number and electronic signature number available. If you feel you may experience a justifiable hardship on the date you have been asked to appear that might prevent or defer your jury service, *** YOU MUST CALL (618) 687-7341 *** as soon as you receive this summons and discuss the situation with the jury administrator or email jury@jacksoncoilcourts.gov.

Occasionally due to snow storms or other reasons, The Court will delay opening of the building, postpone to a different day, or cancel jury service. The phone message system and website will be updated with the same information contingent on courthouse staff access to the system. Local radio station's will have updated closure information as well.

DO NOT park in the reserved spots or a no parking zone. Your vehicle will be towed at your expense.

Parking is limited around the Courthouse. You may park along the streets if space is available. There are public parking areas located (1) one block north of the Courthouse, (2) two blocks west of the Courthouse, directly east of the Courthouse and next to the Jackson County Jail, (1) one block south of the Courthouse.

Handicap parking is located on the south side of the building, which is the location of the Handicap Entrance and in the 2-hour parking lot located on the west side of the Courthouse.

The courthouse doors open at 8:00AM. Public entrance located on the north side of the building on Walnut Street. Allow sufficient time to walk from the parking lot to the security check. Please refer to the section "WHAT SECURITY REQUIREMENTS ARE REQUIRED OF ME" for further security information including those items NOT allowed in the courthouse.

Please bring your summons with you.

Jury selection can take several hours depending on the nature of the trial. You may bring reading material and cell phones/laptops. Be prepared to sit for several hours while the judge and attorneys prepare for jury selection and then begin the questioning process to select the jury members. It is possible the jury selection will last past normal business hours. Please make arrangements accordingly.

Dress appropriately for being in a Courtroom. . Do not report in muscle shirts, shorts, tank tops, halter tops, mesh shirts, ripped or torn clothing or in any attire which would be inappropriate logos, pictures or symbols. Temperature in the Courthouse is difficult to control so you may want to bring a sweater or light jacket.

All jurors are selected for service by a computer system that randomly selects individuals from a list provided by the State of Illinois of county residents who hold a drivers license, a voters registration card, a state identification card, a disabled persons identification card, or who are receiving unemployment compensation.

To qualify for Jury Service you must be:

• A citizen of the United States
• Over the age of 18
• A resident of Jackson County

All requests for excuse or deferral must be submitted to the Jury Administrator and approved.

You may be disqualified if:

• You are not a United States citizen
• You have moved outside the county
• You have a physical or mental disability that would interfere with service
• You are under a sentence imposed for an offense in Jackson County
• You have served as a juror in Jackson County in the past year
• You are currently serving in active duty in the military
• Active case(s) pending in your name in Jackson County. This would include being on court supervision, parole, probation, or any other court monitored sentence.

Because of the random selection process, some names are selected every year or so, and some never are.

Yes, you may bring your cell phone or laptop into the courthouse on your first reporting day. Please note: when jurors are sent to a courtroom all devices MUST be in airplane mode or turned off and put away. Electronics in the courtrooms are prohibited.

Jackson County provides compensation for jurors for their service. Payment for a prospective juror is $25.00 per day. If selected as a juror, payment is $50.00 per day.

You will receive your jury pay on a debit card that you will receive on the first day you report. Once your panel is closed, at the end of the two weeks on-call, the card will be loaded and you can then activate it. The Jury Adiministrator will explain in more detail at that time.

Businesses are not required to pay you for jury service. However, some pay their employees for performing this civic duty. You should contact your Human Resources Office for guidance.

Employers are prohibited from discharging you from your job due to jury duty. However, certain provisions can apply for smaller employers. You should contact your Human Resources Office for guidance. The Jury Office can explain the provisions further. Employers who violate these statutory protections are subject to summary violations and fines.

In Jackson County, Grand Juries are convened to determine whether or not sufficient facts and evidence exist to file charges. Petit Juries are convened to decide questions of fact in civil and criminal cases and to reach decisions in conjunction with those findings. These juries consist of 6 to 12 person plus alternates.

When you enter the north public entrance, you will be required to go through a magnetometer. All briefcases, purses, and packages will be X-rayed by security.

The following items are prohibited in the building:

• Firearms or ammunition of any kind
• Knives of any kind or other sharp objects
• Chemical sprays or aerosols
• Work tools
• Cameras or video or audio devices
• Other items of a dangerous nature at the scrutiny of Sheriff's Deputies

Please let security know if you have any medical equipment you need to bring inside.

There are no childcare services available at the Jackson County Courthouse. Please make arrangements to have your child(ren) cared for. Do NOT bring them with you for service.
